A longer route

Jade Monty O'Neill 1969 (Pretoria)

They waited for the rain to fall
And all the dust to settle
And as they tried to clear the weeds
They were stung again by the nettle.

They looked forward to seeing the sun
That promised their new life
And as they worked towards that goal
Life added even more strife

They made sure to spend the time
To not hurt those around them
Those lucky souls from times gone by
The ones that now did bind them.

Then at the end they set aside a little time to see
What it was that this love now, might actually turn out to be
And having broken all the bonds, they said the words "I do"
And realized that all time lost, would be good times they never knew.
