The Art of Desire

TommyD 1957 (Ft. Lee)

The Art of Desire

Oh what is this feeling , that impedes my life
A perception of longing , sculpted out with a knife

It's the artful dodger , embedded in me
That particular emotion , that won't set me free

This desire , it stimulates , somehow bringing back
Those faraway memories , that will always attack

When I try to subdue them , and turn them away
They enter my mindscape , and ask me to play

Obsessed and embittered , while mingled with dread
Included in memory , and thoughts that seemed dead

Commanding of reason , with higher ideal
The good and bad things , that are all rendered real

Hypothetical imperative , and all human craving
Is reason to curb , the animalistic enslaving

So how do I find , the key to the reason
Of helping myself , escape in due season

It happens when desire , is mingled with thought
While knowing that life , has somehow now brought ...

The peaceful existence , and longing to feel
A sober reminder , existence is real ...

And life is a lesson , that we have all learned
The thoughts brought about them , is memory burned
