Tiny Mittens
Melissa Hurley 1970 (South Bend)
Gusts of wind, frigid, crisp,
bold eyes blue;
vibrant, sparkling; mysteries unfolding,
wonder expressed, vibrant yet;
Delighted squeals play peek-a-boo,
behind the veils of a soul scarcely two.
Timeless queries echo in infinite hopes, dreams, fears
unrevealed but transparent still.
A broken heart opens, begins to heal.
Hands stretched upward, trusting;
splayed to distant skies, waiting.
Button nose, bow mouth, wisps of blonde hair blowing to the four winds.
Mischievous and sweet, carefree giggles meet winter's fierce countenance and defeat it in a cloudy breath.
Tiny mittens stretched over tiny hands, silken cloth, baby skin.
Muffled claps, darting steps,
trailing behind an innocent laugh.
Heralding forward, while simultaneously standing eternally steadfast.
Tiny mittens hand to mouth; throwing and blowing "monster kisses", propelling them into, around, up and down amidst the peaks and valleys of a day that promises adventure.
Drifts of twinkling snow and ice; angles of padded, crystal glass.
Anakin's face reddened, a result of the winter wind raging.
Healing heartbeats stampeding in chests, melting sadness and pain; replacing that space with experiences which will become lasting memories.
Enchanted memories that become joyous heartbeats rather than broken ones.
Tiny mittens...blue eyes and smiles entwined,
set hearts alight with new and bright possibility.
