whoever Would Have Guessed

Betty J. Wade 1949 (Galesburg, Illinois)

We started out as friends of a friend.
I never really thought I would see you again.
Whoever would have guessed
That after all these years
Hearing you speak my name
Would be music to my ears.
You asked me to marry you and I said yes.
Again I say, whoever would have guessed?
We are older now and dealing with life
But we do together as husband and wife.
Whoever would have guessed
We would have a beautiful daughter?
We love her and she shows us all that we taught her.
She now has two angels all her own,
One who wants to be a scientist when he is grown,
The other a prima ballerina, a star to be shown.
Being a grandparent is such an honor,
To cherish the love of these gifts from our daughter.
This is my life at it’s very best.
Whoever would have guessed it would be such a success?
