Doubt

You apologize
They don’t know why.
It seems they don’t think that
But is it just an act?

They say they don’t feel that way
But the doubt’s still there.
What if
They’re hiding it
With that white mask
And that huge smile
That says
“Of course I don’t feel that way. Don’t be silly. I would never think that about you.”
And the cackling laugh that seems to be mocking.

The doubt’s still there.

And then you think that maybe
Maybe it’s better to keep your mouth shut
To not say anything; to keep quiet.

They say, you listen
You say, they don’t.
Perhaps it is
You say too much?

Who knows?
But the doubt’s still there.

Yes, the doubt is still there.
