Love I knew thee not

Calvin W. Crenshaw 1959 (Atlanta)

I have sought thee on many a starry night
Searching many faces, just beyond my sight
Of chance encounters lost on an unspoken word
Oh love how fickle,  such a truly rare and exotic bird!
I thought once I had found true love and beaten  the odds
That I was lucky and had truly been blessed by the gods
Alas it was not to be for in my heart she would not remain
She left my heart taking all the love but leaving the pain
Now this is my life, and as such this is my lot
As for love I realize  I truly knew thee not
