Consumerism

Maryna Tchianova 1989 (Belgorod-Dnestrovskiy)

I consume, therefore I exist' -
the consumerism
is a mist
covering the instincts of soul,
and concealing the motives which roll
like the words on my tongue
and smoke in my lungs.
'i buy, therefore I am' -
the anathema of this scheme
would have been a dream,
but a penniless mind is miserable
and no one will listen to its screams.
The omnipotent desire of wealth
is something
that can build or ruin your health,
but if sometimes you drink from poetic wells,
you get a link with the Supreme.
The consumerism
is an everlasting dream
of the mankind.
Parades and feasts,
Hollywood beasts,
advertising blocks,
shining locks of models' hair
that flow in despair
of a New Great Depression,
the desire to own and obtain
is a motive that will contain
our inability to skip this train.
We cannot refrain.
