A Fight Against Love

It started as one date
Then one turned into two
Eventually we said I love you
And a few years later we said I do
It was a love that no one else had

But soon things began to go bad
You came home from work and drank a couple beers
I guess the love starts to fade after five years
You kept losing your job
And I began to sob

You went from loving me to shoving me
Through the hall, down the stairs
Sometimes you would even drag me by my hair
You would buy me makeup to cover the bruising
So no one would know that I was constantly losing

I told myself I would leave
But then one day you were so sweet to me
I should have known that you wouldn’t change
Through these past three years how did I manage
To death do us part thats what was said

So I cried at the mini mart and sometimes in bed
You would tell me to shut up and begin hitting my head
But I know what I’m worth now
Even though you kept beating me down
I got the courage to leave, you are no longer beside me

I know who I am and I know my worth
Who knew that there could so much hate on this Earth
four years later and I have healed my scars
I am free but you are locked behind bars
And from now on I will shout with glee
