Preface to Winter

Elizabeth Sheppard 2002 (Ohio)

The winds blow south and with them go
All the birds with fear of snow
The sun dims to a golden glow
And steeper shadows slowly grow

And autumn chill now grasps the night.
Red and yellow leaves take flight
The blight of winter now in sight.
