Dino (Friendship)

Michael R. Cole 1959 (Sacramento)

It started with me cutting your lawn,
Then you cutting mine, it didn’t take much more time.
We’d sit together and have a beer,
We’d talk about our families we knew they were near.
Then came our babies so young and new,
I had one girl and you had two.
We went to ballgames we barbecued,
Your turkey and fish were the best of the menu.
Then one day I moved away,
Boy, what a mistake that was, I’m here to say.
Now, time has gone by and we fell apart,
but our friendship is still deep in my heart.
I know our lives went different ways,
but you need friends in these troubled days.
Your heart got broken, mine did too,
I weep sometimes knowing what you went through.
So, as your friend till the bitter end,
Call me you just have to hit send.
