Montgomery Lane

I caught myself contemplating life,
Halfway down Montgomery Lane.
Color changing leaves all abound,
But I viewed them with disdain.

Another season at the threshold,
Of consuming my daily life.
I would give anything to once again feel,
The cool breeze cut through me like a knife.

Therein lies the problem,
I’ve been consumed with all these days.
How do I finally accept
That I’ve lost my true love’s gaze?

I’ve become numb and cannot feel,
I relinquished every antiquated notion
Of what I should do to save what we had
And stop what was put into motion.

I caught myself contemplating life,
Halfway down Montgomery Lane.
And I came to one definitive conclusion,
That I will never feel again.
