Heartlight

Inside us all, there’s a special place
Within our hearts, a lyrical space
A universe of emotions
The spawning ground of passionate notions
Deep in our souls, poetic words to stimulate
Let those words come forth to motivate
Our conscience opens a quizzical door
So vast is the mind when given the chance to explore
Words may even formulate
A tendency for lyrical rhymes to contemplate
Pen is to paper as keys are to computer file
Conveying a heartfelt tear or smile
The poet in your heart sometimes plays hide and seek
Elusive while your awake, writing while you sleep
Then it seems there’s no end
Words from thin air to keyboard or pen
Of love and my need to quench its thirst
And the love of my life, above all else she comes first
Who she is I ponder every day
Maybe I’ll see her today
For what matters most is true love
Especially if it’s written in stars above
More than once I’ve been but a slave to my composition
Giving clue to thought provoked rendition
I’ll sit and ponder the serenity of sunset
Searching for words to describe a scene I’ll not forget
I’m reminded of love by everlasting beauty
How it all fits together and writing of it is my heartfelt duty
Like a photograph captures a moment in time
Same as my written prose, no matter the subject nor rhyme
The elusive poet within me will write
Whenever compelled to see through my heartlight

DanceOfThePoet'sPen

Guess you could say I'm a self taught poet. I started writing poetry as a means of dealing with the emotions of finding my Birthmother's obituary and grave site after searching for 10 years. I continued writing and over the course of the last 20 years I've become comfortable in how I write. You'll notice I tend to write a lot about nostalgia and old memories. Hey, when you round the corner of 60 years, you start thinking a lot about the past and where you've been. One of my subjects I write about is love, but I try to write of other things too. I've lived on the south shore of Massachusetts for all of my 64 years. But I love all of New England. Aside from writing poetry, I also love photography and have quite a collection of old antique cameras. Baseball, football, muscle cars and car shows are also some of my interests. Not too crazy about Winter. Spring & Summer are my favorite seasons. more…
