Early Summer

Early summer
and the garden smiles brightly.
Two sparrows dance on the lawn
while a bee scribbles an unfathomable
message in the air.
I try to read my book
but the sights and sounds of nature
pull me away from the page.
I sigh,
and I close the book,
lazily allowing my senses
to soak up what is there
before me.
I wallow in the moment,
clearing my mind of all thought.
Nature nourishes the spirit
and soothes the soul —
better than any book.
