The People Dance

Luis Enrique Jimenez Jr. 2000 (Los Angeles, California)

Unlike the swift motions,
one might make on the stage-
the people dance,
quickly-
like the turn of a page.

A scene that is not dark,
our streets are always day-
the people dance,
with trust-
that light will always stay.

At times we move too fast,
one action laps a thought-
the people dance,
carelessly-
hoping they’re never caught.

But once the house goes dark,
they stop and wonder how-
the people dance,
with disregard-
until the final bow.
