The Chosen Path

Thomas C Henshaw 1618 (England) – 1700 (England)

I chose a path to walk today
Ahead a man stood in my way

I asked him if I could go past
He said I needed but to ask

He asked to sit and talk awhile
Then I saw his tender smile

The path you chose is long and hard
With obstacles be on your guard

The path you chose has many turns
With perils for the unconcerned

Make wise decisions upon your way
Perhaps we'll meet another day

In later years I saw this man again
Soldiers were unclothing him

Accused of crimes that should not be
That gentle man who spoke with me

They nailed him to a cross of wood
From whence a mighty tree had stood

They pierced his body with a spear
He made no cry nor shed a tear

They raised him high into the air
I heard a voice upon my ear

The masters voice loud and clear
I knelt before the cross to hear

I lay my burdens at his feet
While listening to the voice so sweet

THIS SON I GAVE TO SET YOU FREE
HIS DEATH SHALL SERVE HUMANITY

THE PATH YOU CHOSE I CLEARLY SEE
IT WILL BRING YOU UNTO ME

THIS PATH OF VIRTUE FREE OF VICE
WILL LEAD YOU HOME TO PARADISE
