Ireland's North West

Oh, it’s good to be back home in Ireland
Especially in its fair North West,
Whether it be the City of Derry
Or the town of Limavady
To name but two.

In fact the North West as a whole
Is beyond comparison in the
Land of the Shamrock
Or anywhere else
That I am aware of.

For the two named urban areas
Shared much of my life: for one
Witnessed my birth and my
Earlier years while the other
Provided home for a Roesider.

And, of course, the north West
Is a place, aside from its beauty,
A source of history and culture
With the Siege of Derry and
The soul of Danny Boy.

Also the poetic convention led
By St. Colmcille at Drumceat.
As well as the poetic art of ‘Peg
Of Limavady’ and ‘Finvola,
The Gem of The Roe’.

And, of course Derry’s musical
Talent and the origin of the
‘Civil Rights Movement’
In the nineteen sixties
And, alas, ‘Bloody Sunday’...

Oh, yes, it is a place to visit
And to dwell if time permits
For aside from nature the people
Of the North West of Ireland is
Deemed by many to be number one.
