Fallen tree took Jack’s daw

Fallen tree has hit the chair
An’ some poor soul wiz sittin’ there
That big auld birch came crashin’ doon
Beneath the light o’ an oglin’ moon

Wi’ a click an’ a clack an’ a creak an’ a crack
The midnight howled an’ aw’ went black
Wi’ a shudder an’ a blaw an’ a pigeon an’ a craw
The guid tree’s deed an’ so’s Jack’s daw

That michty tree came tumblin’ doon
Tae crack daw fair sare oan the croon
Twa’ birch an’ daw noo mere a story
An’ aw fir the sake o’ a guid God’s glory

Take heed then aw’ who pass by here
An’ proffer a prayer fir Jack’s daw dear
Fir yi’ ne’er ken when yir ain span quicken
An’ yi’ll ne’er ken when yir ain worm’s stricken
