The Snowdrop

This spring morning
Perceiving growth
From dark clay
A flower I love more
Than all the flowers
Of today...

While a-listening to
Birds in a small Irish
Wood its beauty attracted
Me as nothing else could.

As a flower it symbolises
Childhood long ago
That golden age of life
Where I would like to go.

But now I pray that the rest
Of my life will be long so as
To yearly welcome 'snowy'
Within silence or near song.
