angel city blues

Edward L. Canavan 1971 (New York)

wide awakened
as the rain subsided

the day
not quite
the day yet

the fog of forgetting
still heavy in the air

she once was in love
and filled the empty space beside me

now,
there are mornings
like this

rooms full of empty spaces
and quiet sorrow

until,
again,
the birds
caged inside my heart
will sing
for another.
