On Seeing A Certain Advertisement

SO then farewell ye fugitive delights,
Ye glassy splendours, once so much enjoy'd,
And hop'd more lasting O my halcyon days,
Whose pleasing round of gay felicities
The wisest had beguil'd farewell for ever!
So the pleas'd child who hath a bubble rais'd,
Joys in the airy globe, and views, surpris'd,
The gaudy colours, that its surface shows;
But ere his raptur'd eye beholds his face
In the slight mirror, with a sudden burst
It vanishes, and can be found no more.
