Hora prima

J'ai salué le jour dès avant mon réveil ;
Il colorait déjà ma pesante paupière,
Et je dormais encor, mais sa rougeur première
A visité mon âme à travers le sommeil.

Pendant que je gisais immobile, pareil
Aux morts sereins sculptés sur les tombeaux de pierre,
Sous mon front se levaient des pensers de lumière,
Et, sans ouvrir les yeux, j'étais plein de soleil.

Le frais et pur salut des oiseaux à l'aurore,
Confusément perçu, rendait mon coeur sonore,
Et j'étais embaumé d'invisibles lilas.

Hors du néant, mais loin des secousses du monde,
Un moment j'ai connu cette douceur profonde
De vivre sans dormir tout en ne veillant pas.
