Les Meules de foin

Maurice Rollinat 1846 (Châteauroux) – 1903 (Ivry-sur-Seine)



Tout le sol tondu ras des solitudes plates
Dans un indéfini recul, toujours plus loin,
S’étale montueux de ses meules de foin
saigne le soleil croulé qui se dilate.

Solennelle, pompeuse, avec la nuit qui poind,
D’un morne extasié, leur masse rouge éclate,
Puis, blêmissant, devient l’horizon spectre, et joint
La ligne des cieux blancs de sa cime écarlate.

Stagnant dans l’air croupi, ces meules en sommeil,
Lentement, goutte à goutte, ont tari le soleil
De ses pourpres de sang dont la dernière est bue.

Maintenant, la hideuse et moite obscurité
Comble, débosse, fond, brouille l’immensité
Qui bâille l’ombre informe où s’engloutit la vue.
