Vertigineux géant du désert qu'il écrase,
La tête dans l'azur et le pied dans la mer,
Le mont découpe, ardent, sous le dôme de l'air,
Son farouche horizon de chaos en extase.

Le vide où, par instants, des vents de feu circulent,
Tend son gouffre comblé par son rutilement ;
L'onde et la nue, ayant même bleuissement,
Face à face vibrants, s'éblouissent et brûlent.

Là, ce que la Nature a de plus éternel :
L'Espace, l'Océan, la Montagne, le Ciel,
Souffre pompeusement la lumière embrasée :

Puis, la Nuit vient, gazant sous ses voiles bénis
La Lune, spectre errant de ces quatre infinis
Qui boivent les soupirs de son âme glacée.
