Les Cloches

Maurice Rollinat 1846 (Châteauroux) – 1903 (Ivry-sur-Seine)

Les cloches de nos basiliques
S’esquivent tous les jeudis saints,
Et vont à Rome par essaims
Taciturnes et symboliques.

Quand leurs battants, à coups obliques,
Ont sonné de pieux tocsins,
Les cloches de nos basiliques
S’esquivent tous les jeudis saints,

Et dans leurs robes métalliques
À l’abri des regards malsains,
En rang, comme des capucins,
Elles s’en vont, mélancoliques,
Les cloches de nos basiliques.
