L'église abandonnée

Au soleil bas, l'église a saigné derechef ;
Puis, sa clarté se perd, se rencogne, s'élague,
Et l'ombre, par degrés, de ses rampantes vagues,
Envahit voûte, murs, pavés, le choeur, la nef.
Le jour des coins, des trous ? les ténèbres le draguent
Le mystère et la mort triomphent dans leur fief.
Mais, au vitrail fendu, 1à-bas, en forme d'F,
La lune luit, soudain, ronde comme une bague ;
On revoit, morne, aux pieds du Christ penchant son chef,
Tout percé par les clous, par la lance et la dague,
La Madone exhalant son chagrin qui divague ;
Puis, plus loin, renfrogné, sous un grand bas-relief,
Juste dans le tremblant de la lueur qui vague,
Un maigre saint Bruno ruminant un grief,
Et, dans sa niche, en face, un bon vieux saint Joseph
Qui joint ses longues mains et sourit d'un air vague.
