L’aveugle, un vrai Goya retouché par la Morgue,
À genoux dans le froid coupant comme une faux,
Automatiquement tirait d’un petit orgue
Un son inoubliable à force d’être faux.

Suant par tous les bouts la misère qui navre,
Il étalait deux yeux pâles où rien ne luit ;
Et tel était l’aspect de ce vivant cadavre,
Qu’il rendait le passant généreux malgré lui.

À deux pas, un flâneur à figure malsaine,
Accoudé sur le pont, considérait la Seine
En sifflotant d’un air canaille et vicieux ;

Soudain, vers la sébile il tendit sa main jaune,
Eut le geste qu’on a lorsque l’on fait l’aumône,
Et vola froidement le vieil homme sans yeux.
