Le Goût des larmes

L’Énigme désormais n’a plus rien à me taire,
J’étreins le vent qui passe et le reflet qui fuit,
Et j’entends chuchoter aux lèvres de la Nuit
La révélation du gouffre et du mystère.

Je promène partout où le sort me conduit
Le savoureux tourment de mon art volontaire ;
Mon âme d’autrefois qui rampait sur la terre
Convoite l’outre-tombe et s’envole aujourd’hui.

Mais en vain je suis mort à la tourbe des êtres :
Mon oreille et mes yeux sont encor des fenêtres
Ouvertes sur leur plainte et leur convulsion ;

Et dans l’affreux ravin des deuils et des alarmes,
Mon esprit résigné, plein de compassion,
Flotte au gré du malheur sur des ruisseaux de larmes.
