Le centenaire

Maurice Rollinat 1846 (Châteauroux) – 1903 (Ivry-sur-Seine)

Près du laboureur poitrinaire,
Devant sa porte, au jour tombant,
Est venu s'asseoir sur son banc
Le patriarche centenaire.

Et, comme le gars se désole,
Dit qu'on va bientôt l'enterrer,
L'ancêtre, pour le rassurer,
Lui répond : ' T'es jeun', ça m'console.

Ton temps est pas v'nu d'dire adieu
A tout' les bell' choses de la vie.
L'soleil, l'air, te r'mettront ; j'me fie
A ces grands méd'cins du bon Dieu.

L'hiver, l'arbre est en maladie,
I' n'a plus d'oiseaux ni d'couleurs,
Mais, i' r'prend ses musiq', ses fleurs :
C'n'est que d'la nature engourdie.

Et puis, pour les tiens, d'si brav' gens,
Qui sont pas avancés d'argent,
Faut q'tu viv' ! t'es utile encor.

Tandis q'moi, tant d'âg' me suffit.
Maint'nant, plus à charg' qu'à profit,
J'suis assez vieux pour faire un mort ! '
