La Corne

La nuit est noire opaque. Au bas d’une âpre côte
Paissent bœufs et taureaux, masses lentes, qui vont
Chargés d’horreur, avec un beuglement profond,
Dans le silence affreux de l’herbe humide et haute.

Ici rampe un crapaud, une grenouille saute,
Là, miaule un hibou dans un tronc d’arbre. Ils sont
Comme eux secrets, obscurs, invisibles, ils ont
Autour, dessus, dessous, le mystère pour hôte.

Mais voici l’air s’éclaircissant.
Une lune en demi-croissant
A percé les nuages mornes...

Et, vers cette corne des cieux,
Ébahis se lèvent les yeux
De toutes ces bêtes à cornes.
