Unbroken

I swore to you a promise long ago
A light to lead you home, and guide your way
To brave the wind and shield each heavy blow
A vow to bear your burdens, come what may

But now the pieces tremble in my hand
The edges of my promises, now frayed
Relinquished to the wind, yet still, they stand
Abandoned by the hands for which they're made

Yet I shall guard my pledges, weak or worn
For they were always mine alone to make
And though you have betrayed all that I've sworn
You'll not destroy what’s only mine to break

What fate befalls a promise set in stone,
When it was never made to stand alone?
