Watch Him Close

In the quiet of the room,
Where stories linger, whispers loom,
A man walks through, both bold and slow,
But what is it we truly know?

His words may shine, his smile may gleam,
But do they match the quiet dream?
For in the moments, soft and still,
You’ll see the truth of heart and will.

Not in the door he may unlock,
But in the way he stands, and walks.
Does he rise when others fall?
Does he lift when shadows call?

The door may open, yes, indeed,
But actions speak of deeper creed.
So watch him close, and you will see,
The man he is, the man he'll be.

About this poem

This poem was inspired by a conversation with an older man who shared a powerful piece of wisdom: true character is revealed through actions, not words. His words stuck with me, reminding me that how we handle life’s quiet moments and opportunities speaks louder than anything we could say.
