Qu'heureux tu es, Baïf, heureux, et plus qu'heureux,
De ne suivre abusé cette aveugle déesse,
Qui d'un tour inconstant et nous hausse et nous baisse,
Mais cet aveugle enfant qui nous fait amoureux !

Tu n'éprouves, Baïf, d'un maître rigoureux
Le sévère sourcil : mais la douce rudesse
D'une belle, courtoise et gentille maîtresse,
Qui fait languir ton coeur doucement langoureux.

Moi chétif, cependant, loin des yeux de mon prince,
Je vieillis malheureux en étrange province,
Fuyant la pauvreté : mais las ne fuyant pas

Les regrets, les ennuis, le travail et la peine,
Le tardif repentir d'une espérance vaine,
Et l'importun souci, qui me suit pas à pas.
