N'étant de mes ennuis la fortune assouvie,
Afin que je devinsse à moi-même odieux,
M'ôta de mes amis celui que j'aimais mieux,
Et sans qui je n'avais de vivre nulle envie.

Donc l'éternelle nuit a ta clarté ravie,
Et je ne t'ai suivi parmi ces obscurs lieux !
Toi, qui m'as plus aimé que ta vie et tes yeux,
Toi, que j'ai plus aimé que mes yeux et ma vie.

Hélas, cher compagnon, que ne puis-je être encor
Le frère de Pollux, toi celui de Castor,
Puisque notre amitié fut plus que fraternelle ?

Reçois donques ces pleurs, pour gage de ma foi,
Et ces vers qui rendront, si je ne me deçoi,
De si rare initié la mémoire éternelle
