La grecque poésie orgueilleuse se vante
Du los* qu'à son Homère Alexandre donna,
Et les vers que César de Virgile sonna,
La latine aujourd'hui les chante et les rechante.

La française qui n'est tant que ces deux savante,
Comme qui son Homère et son Virgile n'a,
Maintient que le laurier qui François couronna
Baste seul pour la rendre à tout jamais vivante.

Mais les vers qui l'ont mise encore en plus haut prix
Sont les vôtres, Madame, et ces divins écrits
Que mourant nous laissa la reine votre mère.

Ô poésie heureuse, et bien digne des rois,
De te pouvoir vanter des écrits navarrois,
Qui t'honorent trop plus qu'un Virgile ou Homère !
