Je vis sourdre d'un roc une vive fontaine,
Claire comme cristal aux rayons du soleil,
Et jaunissant au fond d'un sablon tout pareil
A celui que Pactol roule parmi la plaine.

semblait que nature et l'art eussent pris peine
D'assembler en un lieu tous les plaisirs de l'oeil :
Et là s'oyait un bruit incitant au sommeil,
De cent accords plus doux que ceux d'une sirène.

Les sièges et relais luisaient d'ivoire blanc,
Et cent nymphes autour se tenaient flanc à flanc,
Quand des monts plus prochains de faunes une suite

En effroyables cris sur le lieu s'assembla,
Qui de ses vilains pieds la belle onde troubla,
Mit les sièges par terre et les nymphes en fuite.
