Starlight In My Eyes

           Starlight

     How heavy is a star
     Lifted from the sky?

Heaven’s where you are,
And where I’m going to fly

To take you from that place,
     Bring you home with me

And look upon the face
That I was meant to see…

     But life is too unkind
To grant me such a prize

Starlight made me blind,
When I gazed into your eyes

Susan Mayer Brumel

A few years ago, I retired from a thirty-five year career in hospice counseling, at which time I began writing poetry. My poems are influenced by my patients’ journeys, the compelling beauty of nature, and the human condition. A lover of all animals and most people, I enjoy spending time in nature, long walks, and reading Pablo Neruda, Blake, William Carlos Williams, James Joyce, Mary Oliver, Emily Dickinson, Maya Angelou, Leonard Cohen, and more. Baudelaire tells us to ‘be drunk’ on something every day; I am drunk on poetry and intend never to be sober! more…

Romantic, melancholic, and simply beautiful. This suggests an emotional distance that feels insurmountable. Such longing and desire! Devotion. Very lyrical too. It could be a song.

would you allow me to turn it into a song? I have been humming this melody in my head since I read your poem. I’d need to include a few lines for verse and bridge meter so i’d basically co-write it with you. Would you give me permission?

I need to tell you that I sense a song in it too, and my friend Steve does also. I’d be thrilled for you to set it to music! Exciting!

Wow charming lines on the romantic or aspirational outlook of thine life. Searching for possibility in impossible things reflects Poetess' excited, strong will power to achieve something new discovery in life. I like the metaphor life is too unkind and natural imageries to express thine aspiring mind.
The way regular rhyming scheme and trimeters syllables are given appropriately placement are reflects the maturity of the renowned feminist poetess.
I added a bold lines from the Novel ' The Old Man In The Sea' by Earnest Hemingway to highlight thine optimistic stanzas:
" A man be destroyed, but no to be defeated."
