You Never Were on Time

You said it when you said goodbye.
You said you'd anchor near.
You said I'd feel you in the wind, but all I feel is air.

I strained to catch the whispers, too.
I strained but couldn't hear.
I strained to find the signs you left behind, but they weren't clear.

You turned on life before you lived.
You turned our father gray.
You turned your back too fast, and through the cracks, you slipped away.

They drew you to the sugared rot.
They drew you in like prey.
They drew the death-laced line that took the life you lost that day.

We had a pact; you knew it well.
We had so little time.
We had an understanding shared, but now it's only mine.

You chose to never have a choice.
You chose to claim it's fine.
You chose to shoot the poison, smoke that death, and cross that line.

I tried with every breath I gave.
I tried to circulate.
I tried, denied, I cried– I would have died to change your fate.

You said it when you said goodbye.
You said you'd breach the gate.
You said that you would run like wind—I guess you’re running late.

Oh so tragic experiences expressed in your literary lines. While going through thine heart touching lines, I remind Shakespeare ean Tragedies, where Character and destiny plays vital role to give justice to the Protagonist of the tragedies, but in thine casy destiny carried strong cruel role and brought a sea of sorrows. We are the puppets in the hands of the Almighty and acted as per directions of the Omnipresent. In that case we can only cry, shout shedding tears but no one hears. And we take the help of mind and Luck to reconcile to loss. Yea sharing our pains, we atleast lighten our mind and heart. So it is better to engage in busyness and slowly slowly approach for the future. The pathos and melancholy expressed in literary devices like similes, imagery are enough to pierce anyone's heart. It is better to console yourself than to become more heart broken. God bless in your misfortuns , Jessica Ma'am.

Sometimes tragedy brings out the brilliance of those who have been touched by it. You possess such a gift. Sharing your pain may help those who suffer from such loss. I will share your masterpiece with my brother who lost a daughter to drugs.

In South Africa there is a word: Yoh! It's not really translatable, but it conveys inexpressible emotion and is used variously for indignation, anger, grief, surprise, outrage, fear and perplexity. This is a "Yoh!" poem. A real gut-wrencher!

Devastating. There is only so much we can do to help people who don't want to be helped, and it is heart-breaking to lose a loved one too soon to something that could have been prevented.

Your poem is very moving, Jess. I think I know what it’s about, and I’m so sorry for your pain and loss. Sometimes we are helpless to help the ones we love the most. xo
