Cependant que tu suis le lièvre par la plaine,
Le sanglier par les bois et le milan par l'air,
Et que voyant le sacre ou l'épervier voler,
Tu t'exerces le corps d'une plaisante peine,

Nous autres malheureux suivons la cour romaine,
Ou, comme de ton temps, nous n'oyons plus parler
De rire, de sauter, de danser et baller,
Mais de sang, et de feu, et de guerre inhumaine.

Pendant, tout le plaisir de ton Gorde et de moi,
C'est de te regretter et de parler de toi,
De lire quelque auteur ou quelque vers écrire.

Au reste, mon Dagaut, nous n'éprouvons ici
Que peine, que travail, que regret et souci,
Et rien, que Le Breton, ne nous peut faire rire,
