Cependant que tu dis ta Cassandre divine,
Les louanges du roi, et l'héritier d'Hector,
Et ce Montmorency, notre français Nestor,
Et que de sa faveur Henri t'estime digne :

Je me promène seul sur la rive latine,
La France regrettant, et regrettant encor
Mes antiques amis, mon plus riche trésor,
Et le plaisant séjour de ma terre angevine.

Je regrette les bois, et les champs blondissants,
Les vignes, les jardins, et les prés verdissants
Que mon fleuve traverse : ici pour récompense

Ne voyant que l'orgueil de ces monceaux pierreux,
Où me tient attaché d'un espoir malheureux
Ce que possède moins celui qui plus y pense.
