Haunted

I see her in my dreams
The little girl who reaches out to me

Little Angel with those pretty eyes and dirty cheeks

I see her around corners

In daydreams

I saw her just the other day across the street

She fades away

Leaving trails behind

I knew her once
Can't remember her name

There was a time
A time so vague
That little girl makes me think

But then it all goes blank

She disappears in a blink
That little girl so familiar

"Oh no! little girl I'm here!" I yell
As I hear her screams in my sleep

She runs away without a trace
until another day

I waited for awhile thinking she had finally gotten tired

Then She came to me once more
This time with a smile

Her words were
"Thank you for healing"
"I was you all the while"
"Now our pain can reside in exile"

She ran to me, and I held her close.
'Don’t ever let go,' she whispered so low.
"Of you?" I ask

"No" she replied "never let go of our beautiful soul"
And then vanishes into nothingness

Tired and finally free
That little girl was once me

"Haunted" is a powerful and emotionally resonant poem. You've effectively used evocative imagery, fragmented structure, and a shifting sense of time to create a haunting and unforgettable narrative. It's a testament to memory's power and childhood experiences' enduring impact.
