Who am I?

Who Am I?

Am I print art—mass-produced, replaceable,
or a masterpiece hanging in the Prado?
A Volkswagen, dented, rust creeping through the floor,
or a Ferrari 250 GTO, built in ’62?

Am I Louis Vuitton—a symbol of wealth,
or J.C. Penney, two sizes too big,
handed down, worn thin, torn at the seams?
A Timex, ticking too slow, always behind,
or a Patek Philippe—rare, coveted,
keeping time with perfect precision?

Am I a smut novel, smudged, stained,
dog-eared pages where sex is sold,
or a New York Times bestseller—
clever, well-written, Pulitzer-bound,
a literary critique's dream?

Am I gold-wrapped gifts, shining in the light,
or trash in the ditch, highlighted by streetlights?
A settled-for piece of ass,
a starless night,
or the love of someone’s life—
the one they can’t live without?

When I’m gone, what will remain?
Ashes scattered, lost to the wind—
remember her... what’s her name?
Or echoes that linger beneath the moon—
a song, a scar, a summer rain?
Will they find treasure buried in my chest,
or sift through rubble and call it a mess?

A monument carved in stone,
or a scrap of paper caught in the gutter—
forgotten, unknown, a headline never uttered?

Tell me—who decides, who gets to say
what defines my worth at the end of my days?
Please, don’t let them judge me when I’m gone—
especially those who never fucking knew me
