Bien, je l'ay dit, je le confesse,
Que nul ne te pourroit aimer
Autant que je t'aime, Maistresse,
Sçachant mieux qu'autre t'estimer :
Car d'autant que je cognoy plus
Et tes beautez et tes vertus,
D'autant ma Francine je doy
Mettre plus grande amour en toy.

Un autre moins digne, peut estre,
Du premier coup s'éblouira,
Et ne te pouvant pas conoistre
Un fol amour en souffrira,
Pour un rayon de ta beauté
Perdant de raison la clarté,
Et par trop vaine passion
T'offrira son affection.

Mais dy : quel service agreable
D'un tel fol pourras tu tirer,
Qui te criant non pitoyable
Ne fera rien que souspirer,
Que t'ennuier de ses ennuis
Qu'il prendra les jours et les nuits,
Pour ton amour, comme il crira,
Mais par sottise il languira.

Non ainsi, non ainsi, Francine,
Je ne t'aime ainsi folement,
D'un ray de ta valeur divine
Souffrant un fol aveuglement.
Ce qui me fait ainsi t'aimer
C'est que je sçay bien t'estimer,
C'est que sage je cognoy bien
Tes graces qui me rendent tien :

Qui mourroyent, las, si de mes graces
Elles n'avoyent les belles fleurs,
Que mignardement tu embrasses
Pour orner tes dines valeurs
De leur chapelet fleurissant
Par l'age ne se fanissant,
Que je leur donray bien apris,
Puis que tu ne l'as en mépris.

Et ce qui me donne courage,
C'est que tu cheris mes chansons,
Les aimant d'un jugement sage,
Bien que j'agence leurs façons,
N'étant d'amour au coeur ateint,
En l'honneur d'un nom que j'ay feint.
Combien donc les cheriras tu
Quand je chanteray ta vertu ?

Tu les entans, tu les caresses,
Et puis que tu les aimes tant
De leurs mignardes gentillesses
Ton desir je feray contant.
Francine, si tu prens à gré
Mon chant tout à toy consacré,
Si je te voy te plaire aux sons
De mes amoureuses chansons,

Je feray que nulle ancienne
Ne s'élevera dessur toy :
Je feray que la gloire tienne,
Pour t'avoir obligé ma foy,
Bien peu d'envie portera
A la plus brave qu'on lira
De nostre temps avoir eu l'heur
De gagner d'un Poëte le coeur.
