Gargoyles & Grotesques

A skyline rift
reveals the low rising sun
Let your eyes shift
from this glass window
silhouette of impressive skyscrapers
To consider -
a less imposing of features
The many frightful forms
of creatures -
namely gargoyles & grotesques

Whether carved from terracotta
or sandstone
They inhabit in silent desperation
alone
the archways & rooftops
of many Manhattan buildings
Some horrid & horned
Grim contours peer from
the sculptured facades adorned
Like the castles & cathedrals of old
