Ever Green

Ever Green
1

One girl had shown to me,
that when the heart is honest,
a body can never lie.

In my insensibility, my
heart deserted me.

I had lost my voice
and her sound left no signal to follow.
I was hushed by shame in mother nature.

Though I longed for an ageless affair,
This girl left me lovelorn, because
she needed a suitor, not only a lover;
fleeing further past leaving my life forever.

Peace be granted my heart was divided.
Had I loved her for her generous vitality,
as much as she loved me,
We'd still be gathering and pressing the leaves from the woods.

Quiet in my hallow,
guided by heartbreak,
I learned and understood.

A body is a falling leaf;
true love is ever green.

    I've said this before and I'll say it again - you know a piece is good when you wished you'd written it. This is that and then some. Excellent, heartfelt writing here, Mark. Bravo!

      Thank you, I'm feeling overwhelmed. Thanks for the accolade. It does mean something to me. I have a lot of emotion stirring in me right now. This whole experience has been inspiring to me. I've had the same feeling while reading other's poetry, their lyrics, and other forms of writing.

    I like this one a lot, Mark. Introspective and tender. My favorite lines:

    In my insensibility, my
    heart deserted me

    A body is a falling leaf;
    true love is evergreen

      Thank you. That's created some solace for me, as the poem is reflective somewhat to situations I've been in, in the past, although I'd been on both sides, and I know it's something many have been through in their lives as well. I had a hard time writing that because it struck me so emotionally. I'm really glad you liked it. I appreciate the comment.
