Who Am I?

Am I a poet? I’m a poet, and yet you don’t know It.
Am I a gardener? I’m not a gardener, as I can’t grow it.
Am I a fisherman? I’m not a fisherman either, I can’t catch it. Am I a welder? I’m not a welder, I can’t weld it.
Am I an airplane pilot? No, not an airplane pilot, I can’t fly. Am I a lifeguard? I can swim, maybe someday.
Am I a baker? I love my sweets if that counts.

No, I guess I’m just a poet,
That no one cares to know it.
They read it and don’t vote,
Some leave me a little note.

See, I’m a poet of simple things,
Emotion is what my poetry brings.

A laugh or maybe tear,
Maybe a memory or a fear.

Poetry is an everyday ordeal,
It has a lot of people appeal.
Some use fancy words that I don’t know,
I look them up, they help my vocabulary grow.

I’m a simple poet, if you haven’t guessed,
I guess my thoughts haven’t yet been blessed.
To be a fancy, well-known, educated poet,
Because there are times, I can really blow it.

So for today, I’m just a plain simple poet,
Now answer me one question, did I just blow it?

I am a proud graduate of Dwight D. Eisenhower High School, a mother of three, and a grandmother. My journey into writing began when my children were young. Living in poverty, I found solace and creativity with just a pencil, paper, and a vivid imagination. Instead of the books I couldn’t afford, I crafted my own stories and poems, which have become a cherished part of my life. more…
