Hilltop by the sea
The sun dips low beyond the gentle hill,
Its golden rays spread across the sea.
The world is calm, evening soft and still.
I walk alone, where paths lead me,
whispering to the night’s song,
The birds begin their silent symphony.
In constant awe of the view by the sea,
I gaze in wonder from atop that hill.
Enjoying the wondrous symphony,
My mind, once racing, now stands still.
I feel as this is where I belong.
A place where I can finally be me.
Nature's beauty engulfs that hill,
In its own wondrous symphony.
I sit and ponder, as time stands still;
There is no place I'd rather be, to be me.
To listen to nature sing its song,
On that hilltop by the sea.
The birds and trees that shadowed me,
Once moving, now stand still.
On that hilltop by the sea.
Sunset steepens shadows on the hill,
a blissful day could not go wrong.
As crickets begin their symphony.
Day turned night, I reflect on this hill,
As I gaze out upon the sea.
A sweeping calm as all stands still,
The stars now begin their symphony.
Nature's dance turns into a song.
What a day to be alive, and be just simply me.
I start to drift as if to slumber still,
With a view of a dark, tranquil sea.
Stars start dancing above the hill,
Crickets deep in their symphony.
My heart has found the place it belongs.
I'm free, I'm free, I'm me!
Upon this hill, I find peace, and
all stands still beside the endless sea.
In nature’s song, I feel the symphony,
A place where I can simply be just me.
About this poem
This poem is a reflective meditation on peace, belonging, and self-discovery set against the backdrop of nature’s quiet beauty. With vivid imagery and a rhythmic flow, combining a non-traditional Sestina using Tercets. I chose the 5th line of each stanza to be a poem within a poem. In essence, it’s a celebration of simplicity and solitude, where the natural world mirrors the speaker’s own journey to find peace and authenticity.
