The Lucky One
The one who remains,
Watching memories replay from distant years,
Hearing echoes of voices lost to time,
Bearing the weight of endless tears.
The lucky one,
Who made it out alive,
Who glimpses the past in the children's eyes,
Who has to pretend that it’s all alright.
It’s lonely, being the lucky one—
Carrying fate’s cruel favor,
Bearing silent wishes that it was me instead.
The bitterness clings to the lucky one,
Blame seeking a place to rest.
The lucky one,
Sitting in quiet remorse, with no escape,
In the hours when silence fills the room,
The weight of empty spaces feels like a tomb,
Whispering to many ghosts who were once dear faces.
The lucky one—
Left to hold a thousand memories,
To carry on alone, even in a full home,
As loved ones yield to shadows of a tainted past,
And the world turns this heart to stone.
The lucky one...
