A Testimony to Christ

As our Life group meets today
I listen closely to what everyone has to say.
A testimony I need to share
With my Life Group, people who care.

Well, my brand-new friends
My life with Jesus never ends.
Today I will tell you how it began
way back when life hit the fan.

School was a bummer as I recall
I sure was not having a ball.
The kids would tease me all the time.
life at home was not the prime.

Dada non-believer, Mom believed
Deb did not understand back then and couldn't conceive
The abuse was in her home
She was wishing to be the roaming Noam.

Fighting and yelling is what she heard,
Keeping her mouth shut saying not a word.
Then one day a friend came over to say,
"Do you want to go hear what Jesus has to say, today?"

I thought for a minute, it would get me out of the house,
Then later I can sneak back in like a mouse.
Sure, I said, what time and where?
"My parents will pick us up and take us there."

I was but twelve years old back then,
Two years older than ten.
Mom, my friend's parents are picking me up, I said.
Oh, this went over like a pound of lead.

Why, what for, Dad and I need to know,
Or else we cannot let you go.
It is for a Jesus thing, I told her
Knowing Jesus herself, she said sure.

I knew it was not going to be too tough with mom,
She understands Jesus, believing in Him was a bomb.
The time came, I was picked up, joined the meeting,
Plenty of room and lots of seating.

Then a bible handed to me; I was told it was to be mine,
And that I need not say anything here at this time.
As I listened, they talked about the greatest love.
The love they spoke of was Jesus from above.

My curiosity was up I wanted to learn more.
I asked can I come again; it wasn't a bore.
Okay, they said and gave me a permission slip to a Christian rally.
I needed it filled out by my parents for a kid count tally.

As we were going on a bus to a Voice of Christian Youth ordeal,
After we have a supper meal.
Riding on the bus singing a Christian song,
Made my heart feel as I did belong.

At the rally, I could feel the power of the people in my soul.
Yet, I was just a timid youngster of twelve, just a wee mole.
As the music started playing,
People were singing loud and praying,

The excitement was all around, Jesus talk immense,
I wanted more; I was feeling this strange presence.
A need, my soul was empty, I needed a friend,
Someone who would love me forever to the end.

Then they called people to the front who wanted Jesus with a must.
I went up front with the innermost trust.
They asked me, "Would I like Jesus as my Savior?"
I said "Yes," in a very relaxed behavior.

Then coolness never felt before,
Floated right through me like I had opened a door.
Afterward, I asked a dumb question, was that coolness I felt Jesus that passed through me?
They told me, "Yes, Jesus touches people in many ways, you see."

"He gives each one of us a special gift from Him.
In due time your gift will be known so you will win."
Not too sure on what that meant back then,
As I was only two years older than ten.

Now that I am older, I do know what my gift was that I received back when.
It was the gift of love, with the writing of paper and pen.
As I think about it, the writing was my best defense,
it never hurt anyone not even me, hence...

I have written thousands of pages and maybe more,
of my trials and tribulations galore.
All starting when I was twelve, where my writing grew,
as I could write my heart and Jesus always knew...

What I needed and consoled my soul
From turning into a rotten, mean mole.
Sometimes I would ask Jesus, why does my heart hurt.
He replied I have a lot to teach you little squirt.

And boy, did I learn with two marriages gone bad,
The third one was out of friendship safety, so sad.
With all my trials and tribulations behind me,
Jesus brought me, James, you see.

As Jim and me, each of us needed to learn a lot,
This was Jesus' plan and plot.
Why do I know this because way back when Jim and I were young,
We sang in the choir and all we did was sing with a tongue.

Not ready for our two souls to meet,
That is what makes our relationship so neat.
Now we are two people with hearts of gold,
We have a terrific story to be told.

On how we finally met after so many years,
That sometimes I think about it with tears.
Tears of happiness that is here to stay,
With Jesus our head, we will never again stray!

Thank you, Jesus, for all you taught
With all the trials and tribulations, that I fought.
They mean the world today,
Now let us pray...

I am a proud graduate of Dwight D. Eisenhower High School, a mother of three, and a grandmother. My journey into writing began when my children were young. Living in poverty, I found solace and creativity with just a pencil, paper, and a vivid imagination. Instead of the books I couldn’t afford, I crafted my own stories and poems, which have become a cherished part of my life. more…
