God helps Man

For thousands of years man cried out to God
to change his way of life
for it was to long and to hard
Man just wanted to die
In those times man lived to be a few hundred years old
Then Noah came and for 120 years people were told

But they could not understand why
How water could fall from the sky
That was the end of the second age
After the flood God made a change

He created the four seasons and the rain
God said He would never flood the world again
To show that He was helping His man, this is what God did
He said for a 100 years only will man live

When God shortened the years of life in time
It changed the way man thinks in his mind
And so it became here on earth
Now man wants to live and to find worth

Even today it is told
You’re honored if you live to be 100 years old
It’s like you did something good with your life determined to live and not die

A hope, a dream to strive for with might
If you live that long you did alright
And that is an honor in man’s sight

About this poem

My mother is 89 years old and she has been saying for many years that her biggest dream is to live to be 100 years old. She wants to know what it feels like when you are 100 years old. It means so much to her. So I wrote this poem.

I enjoy writing. I’ve written 2 children’s books. “Les Lobster” and “Stars are everywhere” I live in the forest where the river meets the ocean. Sometimes it’s easier for me to write than to talk to others. Ironically, I used to be a switchboard operator. I write because it seems right to write. Plus it keeps my mouth from getting into trouble. more…

This poem's message, though inspirational, feels somewhat clichéd and oversimplified, relying on generic phrases and sentiments rather than offering a fresh or nuanced perspective.

    Dear Lori,
Thank you for your wonderful poem. And blessings to your mother who is my age. My father too, who died at age 99, wanted to live to be 100. He had a good life. You may wish to read her this online poem of mine called “The Great Commission of ‘The Living Field’” that relates to missionary work.

Thank you. She’s been saying it for so many years. She probably will get her wish.
