The fog

The tower struck half past midnight and the moon set highest in the sky.
Finally giving enough light to guide my path through the heavy fog ahead of me.
As I walk along the stoney path I just focus on the steps in front of me.
The animals begin to howl and the fog seemingly became heavier as my heart begins to race.
The moon light begins to quickly fade and I had a terrified sense that I was being followed.
The light sounds of foot steps off in the distance.
There was no use  trying to look behind me.
The fog so thick now I was completely blinded to everything around me.
The sounds of the foot steps echoed louder in my mind.
Not sure of how close they were but still seized by the fear that it was right behind me.
The pounding grew faster and louder.
The animal howls were deafening and all I could see was the fog.
Not knowing where I was going and everything seemed to be spinning in circles.
The fear and the panic were so loud all around me.
Then a flash of white followed by silence.
Surrounded by nothing but the sound of my racing heart.
